Early on, people began to protect the dune landscape from the forces of nature by planting, and it was not until the end of the 19th century that the last open area of the Schaabe near Glowe silted up.


On the side of the Schaabe facing the Baltic Sea, a wide, flat bay formed over decades - the Tromper Wiek with one of the longest and most beautiful sandy beaches on the island of Rügen. The spit has not been built on to this day, which has preserved its unspoilt nature and beauty. Hikers and cycle tourists can also explore the Bodden side of the Schaabe, where the forest merges into a dense reed belt, interrupted only here and there by a small sandy bay.
